Depending on the height of the rug piles, there are two types of rugs. High-pile rugs and low-pile rugs can be distinguished by their characteristics.
In this article, we are going to discuss the differences between these two unique styles of rugs that are commonly used by US homeowners and business owners.
Characteristics of High-Pile Rugs
Usability: High pile rugs, sometimes known as shag rugs, have longer strands and loops. They also have a softer appearance and feel than mid and low-pile carpets due to their height, but they are also more challenging to vacuum as well. We should avoid putting a high pile rug in high foot traffic areas to keep it looking new for as long as possible.
Because of these reasons, High-pile rugs are best for low-traffic rooms such as offices, reading rooms and guest rooms.
Way of styling: You can always place a thick pile of rug under furniture with opposing features to highlight its towering loops' to create a distinctively intimate appearance. For instance, a white high-pile rug with a dark wood coffee table will contrast sharply and highlight the soft texture of the rug.
Characteristics of Low-Pile Rugs
Usability: Low-pile rugs are best for rooms that have high traffic (such as dining and living rooms). Low-pile rugs are ideal for children's bedrooms, or really any room in a home with kids, as they tend to feel softer and make vacuuming easier. Additionally, there is almost no chance of tripping over any loose ends because the fibers are tighter and lower to the ground.
Way of styling: If you want to keep it from blending in with the rest of the flooring, choose a low-pile rug with a fun or distinctive design. The reason behind this theory is, the fibers of low pile rugs are tight and low to the ground and serve more for utility than for aesthetics.
